Wilbur wins
Chapel Hill resident Noah Jens, 9, raced the winning worm,
Wilbur, at the Woolly Worm Festival on Sunday in downtown Banner Elk. Tradition dictates that
the winning worm serves as a winter weather forecaster based on the lengths of the worm's
orange-and-black segments. According to Jim Morton, the festival founder, we face a cold winter with
moderate snow. Jens received a $1,000 prize. Photo by Bruce Morrison
