Walgreens proposed for King Street
A developer will seek a special use permit from the Boone Board of Adjustment May 2 to build a Walgreens at 114 and 116 W. King St. -- the current location of Green Mother Goods and another building next to Earth Fare.
The project is subject to transitional zone requirements because the property abuts an R-1 single-family residential zoning district. The applicant, Matt DeMeyers on behalf of Walgreens, also requests variances to landscape buffering standards.
The board of adjustment meets at 5:30 p.m. May 2 at 1500 Blowing Rock Road.
A post on the Green Mother Goods Facebook page earlier this week indicated that if the project is built, Green Mother Goods and the Vitality Fresh Fast Food truck that operates in its parking lot hope to relocate to another location downtown.
"It'll be sad, personally, for me, if that does happen," Green Mother Goods owner Debi Golembieski said. "If we had more investment money, I could potentially realize a bigger vision there."
Boone Drugs Inc. operates a pharmacy nearby, next to Earth Fare.
