Watauga High School students Doria Kosmala and Willa Finck have
been selected for the North Carolina All-State Honors Orchestra, a group of 127 of the state’s
finest high school musicians.
Both Kosmala and Finck are violinists and were placed in the
first violin section of the honors orchestra by audition.
“We are very proud that
Doria and Willa were selected as all-state musicians,” said Will Selle, who teaches orchestra at
Watauga High School and Hardin Park Elementary.
“They have combined hard work and talent to
become excellent violinists, and they are very deserving of this honor. N.C. Honors Orchestra is a
culminating event for music students, and it is always exciting to see how our young musicians
measure up to the rest of North Carolina,” he said.
Members of the All-State Honors Orchestra
took part in a three-day clinic Nov. 11-13 in Winston-Salem that concluded with a concert in the
Stevens Center for Performing Arts.
The concert was the kickoff event for the annual
conference of the N.C. Music Educators Association.
Former WHS students Ledah Finck and Maura
Shawn Scanlin, now students at the UNC School of the Arts, also attended the clinic.
The
concert program for the All-State Honors Orchestra was directed by Steven Huang of Ohio University
and included works by Richard Wagner, George Gershwin and Hector Berlioz.
