The party hits Paolucci's
Party rock is in the house tonight at Paolucci's.
Downtown Boone's Italian restaurant opened The Nightclub over the summer to cater to those people who just want to get on their TGIF work their moves like Jagger and dance until the world ends.
Paolucci's continues serving homemade comfort cuisine through the evening, but the late night menu has changed. Starting at 10 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, the meal course entails hearty servings of dance, music and entertainment.
"We wanted to provide Boone with a fun place to go and have a good time," manager Jennifer Mackey said.
After retrofitting the restaurant to accommodate a club experience, Paolucci's introduced The Nightclub in mid-July. The club is a result of Paolucci's owner Carl Paolucci's connection with Justin Allen, a seasoned entertainment specialist who desired to open a nightclub in Boone.
"Boone is a town that is historic for live music, but one of the things that it hasn't seemed to have is a successful nightclub life," Allen said. "In doing some research, we found that there are a lot of people, 21 and up, in town that just want to go out and dance and listen to music."
Allen wanted to stir up Boone's nightlife from the moment he moved from Denver, Colo. four years ago. He attempted to lease the building that once housed The Library restaurant and bar on Blowing Rock Road. When the building's owner leased to someone else, Allen put his plans for a club on the backburner and enrolled in the nursing program at Appalachian State University. Approaching graduation, he got the itch to attempt a club again.
"I thought it was time to find a new place," he said. "Paolucci's was the best place to do it in Boone."
Allen and Paolucci have worked together over the past year developing The Nightclub at Paolucci's. They finally decided to install the club this summer.
"It took about four to six weeks to get it all built up," he said. "We added new lights, a new sound system and did some small building modifications like new drink rails and new booths."
Paolucci's also added three 12-foot screens, which double for viewing of music videos on club nights and sporting events at other times.
Allen said The Nightclub at Paolucci's has received a great response so far for the '80s and '90s music on Flashback Thursdays and the more contemporary Top 40 music on Friday and Saturday. "We've seen an increase every week," he said.
If there's enough of a demand, Allen said The Nightclub may expand to Wednesday nights. The additional night would host specialty events.
"We might have shag parties, a Latin party -.that night has fantastic potential for these kinds of parties," he said. "I would even be open to doing karaoke."
Allen is excited about building Boone's nightlife and is pleased that he could work with Paolucci's in doing it.
"Carl has given us a great base, and we're looking to build on that," he said. "This club is the kind of place I would have built in Raleigh or Charlotte and have lines out the door. It's perfect."
The Nightclub at Paolucci's is located in the Marketplace at 738 W. King St. The Nightclub functions Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. Cover is $4, and ladies who enter prior to 11 p.m. are admitted free. Only ages 21 and up are admitted.
