New Year's gift for local family

For Jason and Courtney Eller, 2011 brought more than a champagne toast.

At 7 pounds, 14 ounces, Peyton McKenzie Eller, Watauga Medical Center's official New Year's baby, made her way into the world Jan. 2.

"She is like a little doll," mom Courtney Eller said Tuesday after bringing Peyton home. "She has black hair, and she's very sweet and loves to be cuddled and loved."

And the proud older brother?

"He's 3 years old," she said. "And he calls her 'my baby Peyton.'"

Peyton, whose due date was Jan. 7, was 18.5 inches long.

"She's perfect," Eller said.

Eller, a teacher at Blue Ridge Elementary in Ashe County, doesn't have any idea of what Peyton will grow up to be, but knows, thanks to a tight knit community, her baby will do just fine.

"This area's all about family and tradition," she said. "Everyone is a really big family."

And she's thrilled that her family just got bigger.

"It was the best New Year's gift we could get," she said.

Her New Year's resolution?

"Just to spend time with my family," Eller said.

Jason Eller works at Ferguson Enterprises in Boone. The family resides in Todd.
