Local man rescued
This scene was taken at the ball field in Blowing Rock just
after a rescue in the mountains of N.C.
An Army helicopter landed to off-load the patient from the
rescue in the Sampson community and turned him over to local paramedics. The patient was then
switched to a Blowing Rock Fire & Rescue Ambulance and transported to Watauga Medical
Center.
Rescue was in a rough area near the Watauga and Caldwell County line where the
patient broke his ankle sometime yesterday fishing by a creek in the Sampson area and was unable to
get help. Rescuers began searching early this morning and found him with a broken ankle and
dehydrated. Due to the extreme rough terrain, a Army National Guard helicopter was used to retrieve
the patient.
Many fire departments from Caldwell and Watauga Counties were involved in
this rescue, as well as Watauga Rescue and N.C. Emergency Management.
