Last chance to dance
Save the last dance for May 15.
It will be your last chance to swish your skirt and toast to the end of an era: The old Watauga High School.
Students at WHS invite you to celebrate in a very nostalgic way with the one thing all alumni have in common: The prom.
"We want it to be like a homecoming," student council's Marissa Pannell said.
The event was initially touted as a "Second-chance Prom," but that description isn't really accurate.
"It's more of your last chance to dance here," student council advisor Leigh Wallace said. "This is the last opportunity ... For those people who graduated years and years go, if you haven't come back to the school to see it, this is your last chance."
Chances are, you won't be by yourself long enough to be a wall flower.
"We've gotten close to a hundred or more people saying they are going to attend," Wallace said.
While formal dress isn't required, it's strongly encouraged.
"Some girl on Facebook was like, 'I've just got my dress, I'm so excited,'" student council member Courtney Dunnigan said.
"After all, who doesn't like dressing up?" Pannell said.
Not only will you see what's changed since you walked across the commencement stage, but you'll get to look back at where it all started.
"We're going to have memorabilia trophies. We're gathering headlines from newspapers, getting yearbook pictures, athletic accomplishments, anything we can find pertaining to the school," Pannell said, and she needs your help.
"We're trying to have a table for each decade," Dunnigan said.
In order to do it, students need your memories. E-mail them for information on how you can put your WHS memories on display.
Tickets for the event are $10 if you pre-order them and $15 if you buy them at the door.
The WHS open house starts at noon May 15 and lasts all day. The Final Chance Prom starts at 8 p.m.
Graduates are encouraged to check out the Facebook alumni group and e-mail their memories to (firstname.lastname@example.org)
