Humane Society offers up flapjacks

Pancakes for pooches, or flapjacks for felines, any way it is worded, have breakfast to benefit the Watauga County Humane Society this Saturday.

Applebee's Neighborhood Grill on Blowing Rock Road in Boone is hosting a pancake benefit from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. A short stack with sausage, with a coffee or orange juice will be served for $7.

Seating is limited, but tickets are available in advance at the humane society shelter on Casey Drive, Bare Essentials Market or by calling Claudia Strickland at (828) 963-4649.

The following Saturday, WAGS, the Appalachian State University club, will be holding a car wash in the RBC Centura Bank parking lot in front of the Boone Mall. Club members will be washing cars from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for any donation amount. All proceeds will benefit the Watauga Humane Society.

The entire month of October is Adopt-a-Dog month with special discounts on dog or puppy adoption.

The reduced adoption fee of $75 for any dog or puppy adopted this month is a savings of $20 off the regular rate The adoption fee includes spay/neuter surgery, microchipping, a dog's first set of vaccinations, a heartworm test for dogs over 6 months, a free initial exam with a participating local vet, a 10 percent discount off a purchase at The Pet Place, a free 5lb bag of Science Diet dog food, a free Training Your Shelter Dog DVD and a Start Right Dog Training Class, with a discount coupon of $30 for a 6-week private training class with John Quy of Little Horse Creek Farm.
