Gov. Bev Perdue has joined President Obama by ordering U.S. and North Carolina flags lowered on state facilities from sunrise to sunset on Friday, Aug. 31, in tribute to the memory of Neil Armstrong, the first man to walk on the Moon. Citizens are urged to follow this order, as well.
A private funeral for Armstrong, 82, who shunned publicity for decades after commanding the historic Apollo 11 mission in July 1969, will be held Friday in Cincinnati, Ohio.
