High Country United Church recognized as ‘Open and Affirming’
The High Country United Church of Christ has been formally recognized as an “Open and Affirming” church by the United Church of Christ Coalition for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Concerns.
The coalition provides backing and sanctuary to all United Church of Christ lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people, their families and friends and advocates for their full inclusion in church and society, citing Christ’s affirming message of love and justice for all people.
“It is a joyful honor for us to be recognized by the coalition for living as an Open and Affirming congregation since our inception in 2002,” said the Rev. Dr. Shelly Wilson, the High Country United Church pastor. “It gives us added opportunities to connect with others in our community who might be looking for a home where they can belong and share their gifts and graces. We love to spread the good news that all God’s children are celebrated, not in spite of who they are, but precisely because of whom the Creator made them to be.”
The High Country United Church is located at 8233 U.S. 421 North, about seven miles northwest of Boone. Sunday worship begins at 11 a.m. For more information, visit http://www.highcountryucc.org.
