Article Published: Mar. 4, 2010 | Modified: Sep. 7, 2011

At the March 9 meeting of Green Drinks Boone, the discussion will focus on some of the green trends that are beginning to influence many aspects of the residential real estate market.

Tom Abernethy, of the RE/MAX Realty Group, is sponsoring this Green Drinks Boone event and will lead the discussion that will review how real estate, banking and other related business sectors are beginning to see a green trend that is impacting this important sector in the High Country.

Green Drinks Boone is an informal social networking organization that hosts monthly events for anyone interested in "green" activities in the High Country. It's a great way to catch up with local people involved in "green" services and make new "green" contacts. Boone Green Drinks is among 12 other North Carolina communities and 640 cities worldwide that host monthly gatherings of sustainably-minded people who meet to informally discuss green business, green services and green activities.

On Tuesday evening, March 9, Boone Green Drinks will meet from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Bar at Pepper's Restaurant located at 240 Shadowline Drive in Boone.

The group is supported by the Green Building Committee of the High Country Home Builders Association, the High Country Business Network, MountainKeepers, Watauga County Green Business Plan, EverGreen Committee of the Boone Chamber of Commerce, and Blue Ridge Entrepreneurial Council.

One of the organizers of the event, Jeremy Bollman, a certified green professional with Mountain Lumber Company, said, "This is a great opportunity for people working or interested in different "green" businesses to get together and talk about what they are doing."

Green Drinks Boone gatherings are free and open to the public. Participants cover their own cost of beverages and light snacks are provided. The slogan of the International Green Drinks organization is "Saving the World One Sip at a Time."

These events are simple and unstructured with a lot of positive benefits. Attendees have found jobs, made friends, developed new ideas, done deals and had moments of serendipity.

The group will continue to meet on the second Tuesday of the month and members invite interested people to join them on Facebook at Green Drinks Boone to receive future updates.
