Free disposal offered at landfill during Community Pride Week
In connection to Community Pride Week activities in Watauga
County, local residents will have an opportunity to dispose of unwanted items free of charge next
week at the Watauga County Landfill.
Residents will be able to discard various types of residential waste, including furniture, yard debris, appliances, electronics, medications and household hazardous waste. This offer does not apply to commercial haulers or businesses.
The free disposal of residential debris will be available at 336 Landfill Road, from Monday, April 29, until Saturday, May 4. Hours of operation for the event are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to noon Saturday.
The list of applicable items for disposal includes appliances, tires, furniture, metal, asphalt, brick, cement, rock, bush (no stumps) and electronics.
A Household Hazardous Waste Day will also be held on Saturday, May 4, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the landfill.
Approved items for disposal include paint, household batteries, NiCad batteries, lead-acid free batteries, antifreeze, ethylene, gasoline, lighter fluid, solid and liquid pesticides, oxidizers, used oils and household cleaners.
Also, Operation Medicine Cabinet will allow residents to dispose of all prescription and over-the-counter medications, as well as medical supplies on Saturday, May 4, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the three Food Lion locations in Watauga County and the Foscoe Fire Department. The disposal is free with no questions asked.
