End of an Era
Jim Furman grills the last batch of burgers last Saturday.
After 92 years and countless numbers of sausage biscuits, split
chilidogs and milkshakes, the Boone Drug lunch counter served its final French fries and grilled
cheese sandwiches last Saturday. Hundreds of diners and friends came by for the final breakfast and
lunch services, including former employees who worked at the grill in the 1960s and ’70s. The
fountain is closing, but the space will once again become a restaurant this spring when FARM Café
utilizes the space.
