Doc Watson examines the statue that bears his likeness, after it was unveiled on King Street in
downtown Boone last Friday.
More than 1,000 people gathered in downtown Boone last Friday to honor legendary flat-picker Doc Watson, who was honored with a statue that will forever mark Boone as the place where the Grammy Award-winning, Deep Gap native got his start.
Watson insisted that the statue, crafted by sculptor Alex Hallmark, include the engraving, "Just one of the people."
