With 11 years proudly serving customers at their Shadowline
retail location, Conrad and Jody Poe of Conrad’s Coffee Company have decided to close the location
to focus on expanding their wholesale presence and reach.
“It’s a bittersweet
decision, but we are excited to be opening a large-scale roasting facility and taking our business
further in this direction,” Conrad Poe said. “We’re so thankful to our customers over the years and
want to be sure they know they can still find our coffee in town, both brewed fresh daily, as well
as coffee beans available for purchase by the pound.”
Though the Shadowline location will be
closed, Conrad’s Coffee Company on N.C. 105 remains open and will sell beans in bulk. Mountain
Bagels, which currently brews and sells Conrad’s Coffee, will also offer Conrad’s beans in bulk.
Both will accept previously issued Conrad’s Coffee Company gift certificates.
The
following establishments also serve freshly brewed Conrad’s coffee:
Conrad’s Coffee,
ASU/Central Dining Hall
Highland Coffeehouse, Main Street, Lenoir
Miracle Grounds,
Crossnore
Fred and Larry's Coffee, Banner Elk
Lowe’s Foods, Boone, Banner Elk, West
Jefferson
Conrad’s Coffee Company was established in 2000 and stemmed from Poe’s travels
abroad working as personal security for business professionals. After bringing home coffee from
various countries as a souvenir, friends began requesting “Conrad’s Coffee,” and Poe recognized that
not only could he fill a niche in Boone, but he could also make a real difference in the lives of
coffee farmers in developing nations by buying raw beans directly from them.
