Boone Service League opens 2012 grant applications

The Boone Service League, a community service organization of local women, is currently accepting applications from local nonprofit organizations for the annual Boone Service League Grants program.

Any eligible nonprofit organization meeting the following criteria are invited to apply: Grants shall be awarded only to nonprofit organizations with a 501(C)(3) status and government agencies operating within the High Country and serving the High Country, including Watauga, Ashe and Avery counties.

Nonprofits with board members or presidents who are also BSL members may still apply.

The total amount of money available for grants this year is $7,000. The total number of grants that will be awarded depends on the amount of money requested by applicants.

No award in excess of $1,000 will be made to any single organization, in order to help as many organizations as possible. Monies granted may only be used for a special project.

Any organization, regardless of being located in the three-county area, applying must plan to use the finds within Watauga, Ashe and Avery counties (for example, no funding for national organizations or for travel/missions outside the three counties.

Organizations applying for grant money must:

• Complete the application found on the league’s website at http://www.booneserviceleague.org by midnight on March 20.
• Submit one reference from someone outside the organization. This may be a BSL member, as long as she is not a member of the applying organization.

Evidence of 501(C)(3) status must be available upon request.

Grant recipients will be notified by the first week in May.

Grants will be presented to the recipients at the Boone Service League Spring Dance and Silent Auction on Friday, May 11, at the Meadowbrook Inn in Blowing Rock. A representative from each receiving organization must be present to receive the award.

Those submitting an application will receive a confirmation within 48 hours.
