Black Bear celebrates grand reopening
Black Bear Books is celebrating a grand reopening on July 30 at 4 p.m. with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Owners Chris and Karen Walker will welcome the Boone Area Chamber of Commerce and local leaders for the event. Local author Peggy Poe Stern will be signing and discussing her many novels and nonfiction books.
On Friday evening, Random House authors Karen Hall and Mary Doria Russell will be presenting on "How to Get Your Book Published." To keep the kids entertained, a pajama party is taking place with story time and milk and cookies.
Saturday, July 31, is Customer Appreciation Day. Stern will be back in the store in the morning for anyone who didn't get a chance to see her the night before. Foscoe Country Corner will be on hand at lunchtime providing a free lunch to all of Black Bear's supporters.
Throughout the afternoon and evening, several authors will be on hand to discuss and sign their books, including local historians Michael Hardy and Elizabeth Baird Hardy, New York Times best-selling authors Sharyn McCrumb and Mary Doria Russell and Catholic journalist and speaker Mary Jo Anderson.
All day on Saturday, visitors to Black Bear Books will find discounts throughout the store and door prizes, including a chance to win free Bald Guy coffee for a year. There will also be face painting for kids of all ages.
