Beech plans 2012 'Cool 5'
Beech Mountain Parks & Recreation has announced the fifth annual A Cool 5 Race Weekend benefit event, and now with a new name: TheAntler Realty A Cool 5 Race Weekend, as Antler Realty of Banner Elk has just signed on to be the title sponsor for the 2012 A Cool 5 Race to take place on Beech Mountain June 2012.
"The staff at Antler Realty is so excited to have our name on this home town sports event," Antler Realty owner Julia Heinlein said.
"I have never experienced a stronger feeling of such a close-knit community than with this town. Being at an elevation of 5,506 feet, Beech Mountain attracts a lot of highly athletic people who excel at skiing, hiking, biking and especially at running. I can see how athletes are drawn to this area because of the natural beauty and beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains, and this event has proven itself as a must-do for the past four years. I have found running is great therapy for the soul, and we are so blessed to host this event in the most scenic mountain resort area in the eastern United States."
A Cool 5 Race Weekend is a compilation of events, birthed in June 2008, held annually in Beech Mountain. The race weekend includes pre-race festivities that Friday, with a pasta dinner, guest motivational speaker, music and plenty of games and activities for the entire family.
The next day, Saturday, is race day. The festivities begin with the 5-mile race, featuring cutting edge Jaguar race timing technology, the pet-friendly, 1.5-mile fun run/walk, and post-race awards party.
A Cool 5 Race weekend not only capitalizes on the beauty and splendor of Beech Mountain, but unites outdoor enthusiasts for a cause.
In 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011, A Cool 5 successfully raised more than $85,000 via sponsors, event participation and in-kind donations, resulting in the construction of a new community playground, Falls Trail Hiking Loop at Buckeye Lake Recreation Area, and will soon help to complete and ADA accessible community fishing docks program with the construction of a new dock at Lake Coffey.
"Through the A Cool 5, Beech Mountain Parks & Recreation hopes to continue our progress of providing safe and enjoyable recreation outlets for our residents and guests, while enhancing Beech Mountain's status as an outdoor recreation Mecca of the southeast for all to enjoy," said Daniel Scagnelli, director of Beech Mountain Parks & Recreation.
