Banner Elk Winery wins at State Fair
Call it liquid gold – times two.
Banner Elk Winery & Villa took home two double-gold awards, including a Best of Wine category and six overall awards, at the 2011 N.C. State Fair Wine Competition.
The Best of Wine category in Red Hybrid was won by Banner Elk Winery’s popular Marechal Foch 2010.
Two double-gold awards were brought back to Banner Elk for the winery’s Cabernet Sauvignon 2009 and Marechal Foch 2010.
The 12th annual N.C. State Fair Wine Competition was held Oct. 5 and 6 and featured 444 wines competing in the commercial division and 94 wines in the amateur division.
The commercial competition was open to all North Carolina wineries. The judges awarded 343 medals overall – 28 double-gold, 25 gold, 128 silver and 161 bronze. The top winners from the commercial and amateur wine competition will be on display at the fair through Oct. 23.
