Knees were bruised, skates were scuffed and goals were met in Columbia, S.C., last month as the Appalachian Roller Girls (ARG) won their first official match, or bout, having faced Columbia Quad Squad"s Miss B-Havers.

"I"m very, very, very happy and excited," ARG creator Jordyn Coats said last week. "I just couldn"t believe it. It blew my mind."

With a score of 64 to 59, ARG proved it"s been worth the year of effort.

About 40 High Country residents accompanied the girls to Columbia for the match and, thanks to the victory, they"re hoping the fanship will increase.

You have plenty of chances to catch the action, and we have a full bout schedule.

Feb. 13: Charleston, S.C.
Feb. 26: Greenville, S.C.
April 2: Athens, Ga.
June 18: Boone, (Holmes, Convocation Center)
July 23: Charlotte

Hungry and want to help? Perfect combination. ARG is raising money for a floor for its home bout by posing as servers at Flipside (421 Blowing Rock Road) Wednesday, Feb. 16 from 4 to 8 p.m.

For even more chances to get in on the action and more bout details, check out the Appalachian Roller Girls on Facebook.
