ASU Theatre & Dance offers community acting classes
The Department of Theatre and Dance at Appalachian State University will offer three community workshops in acting in July.
The Appalachian Actors Studio is open to those who are interested in performing on the college, community theatre or professional level, or who want to learn more about the craft of acting.
Faculty from the department will present topics such as auditioning, dialects, creative character movement and working with other actors in a series of evening classes. Auditioning and Cold Readings - Monday, July 5, 7-8:30 p.m. in Valborg Theatre
This is an on-your-feet class where participants will practice auditioning solo and with a partner and learn the details of how to land a role.
Character and Movement - Monday, July 12, 7-8:30 p.m. in Valborg Theatre
This workshop explores movement and character choices for differing styles of plays. Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable clothes for moving around.
Dialects and Funny Voices - Monday, July 19, 7-8:30 p.m. in Valborg Theatre
This is a fun workshop that explores techniques for creating dialects and character voices for the stage.
Summer Dance Series offered at ASU
The Department of Theatre and Dance's summer dance class series begins June 2 and runs through July 1.
Classes meet Wednesdays and Thursdays from noon to 1:30 p.m. in the Varsity Gym Room 208 at Appalachian State University. The public is welcome. In lieu of a class fee, donations to the Appalachian dance program are welcome.
These classes are open to all dancers or dance enthusiasts. There is no commitment to attend all classes.
Dance classes are of a mixed level with rotating teachers and dance styles each week and may include modern, jazz, gyrokinesis, yoga, tango, belly dance, ballet, salsa and other styles.
