A Scouting Outing
Cub Scout troops in the Blue Ridge District, which includes Watauga and Ashe counties, attended their annual three-day day camp at Appalachian Ski Mountain last weekend.
More than 30 Cub Scouts, from grades one through five, worked to earn badges by participating in activities, such as archery, BB gun shooting, sports, knife safety, crafts, ropes, candle-making and other activities.
The scouts also played games, such as kickball, and raced un-motorized go-carts.
The three days culminated with a large waterslide created by troop leaders by placing a large sheet of plastic on the ski mountain. Personnel from Blowing Rock Fire and Rescue provided the water for the Slip 'n Slide from one of the unit's tankers.
"On behalf of the boys and their parents here, our gratitude goes out to Appalachian Ski Mountain, especially Brenda Speckman and Brad Moretz, for the use of their property to run this camp again," day camp director Matthew Mellon said. "It's just a wonderful place for boys to go to have fun. I also want to thank Blowing Rock Fire and Rescue for coming out and making our waterslide a success."
