A Delicious Thank-You

From left, Disabled American Veterans officers Dave Pickard and Dewey Pruitt welcome military veterans to a free dinner at Golden Corral in Boone on Monday. For the past six years, the restaurant and veterans services group have teamed up to offer the meal the Monday after Veterans Day. An estimated 700 people were fed. With the help of local Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts, DAV also collected donations to help buy a new van that will be used to transport local veterans to area hospitals when needed. Pickard serves as the local chapter's adjutant treasurer while Pruitt serves as judge advocate and senior vice commander for the regional district.
