1451st recognized with national excellence award
A North Carolina National Guard unit was honored for its logistical expertise in Phoenix, Ariz., Sept. 12.
The N.C. National Guard’s 1451st Transportation Company, headquartered in Boone, earned the 2011 National Guard Logistics Unit of Excellence Award, issued by the National Defense Transportation Association (NDTA).
The National Guard Logistics Unit of Excellence Award is given for outstanding proficiency in logistics and transportation operations. The ceremony was presided over by Navy Vice Adm. Mark Harnitchek, deputy commander of Transportation Command (TRANSCOM). Sgt. 1st Class Holly J. Mullis of the 1451st accepted the award.
NDTA recognizes both active and reserve Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard logistical units. The organization is a nonprofit association with no political or educational ties that is committed to partnering between government, military and industry. Additionally, the association maintains control of global transportation travel operations and distribution systems in support of national security.
The association, headquartered in Alexandria, Va., includes more than 8,500 individual and industry members, and over 60 chapters that span the United States, Asia, Europe and the Pacific.
