Part-time (20 hours per week), Professional Academic Advisor
University College (UC) Academic Advising and Orientation seeks qualified candidates for a half-time (20 hours per week) academic advisor position. This is a contracted position and does not carry benefits. The appointment is for the academic year and includes separate contracts for training and new student orientation (approx. 29 hours per week). The start date is immediately. Position Description:
UC advisors provide academic advising for freshmen, transfers, continuing and returning undeclared students by assisting them with academic planning, major selection, academic progress, and referrals to appropriate campus resources. Academic advisors also prepare for and lead all new student Orientation small group advising sessions. Additionally, advisors stay current with advising and orientation technology and professional development, and assist with goal setting, strategic planning, and evaluation of services. Qualifications:
Master's degree required with an emphasis in student development, higher education, or related area. The successful candidate will have experience working with students in a college setting; possess excellent oral and written communication skills as well as outstanding organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills; and will possess advanced technology skills. Successful candidates will possess energy, enthusiasm, a positive approach to work, and attention to detail; demonstrate an excellent rapport with students, colleagues and the campus community; encourage and appreciate diversity; and will exhibit a commitment to the educational development of students.
