Summer Dance Series presented by Department of Theatre and Dance June 8-30

The Department of Theatre and Dance at Appalachian State University invites all dancers and dance enthusiasts to attend its 2011 Summer Dance Series that runs Wednesday, June 8, through Thursday, June 30.

Classes are every Wednesday and Thursday from noon to 1:15 p.m.

The Summer Dance Series offers open dance classes of a mixed level each week, with rotating teachers and dance styles, such as Pilates, modern, jazz, Gyrokinesis, yoga, belly dance, swing, ballroom and more. Classes will be held in room 208 in the Varsity Gym Dance Studio.

There is no cost, but donations to the Visiting Artist Endowment and dance scholarships are welcome. Attendances to all classes are not required. Kids are welcome to attend the classes with an adult.

Theatre and Dance presents Appalachian Actors Studio in June

Appalachian State University's Department of Theatre and Dance invites community members, faculty and students ages 18 and over to attend its Appalachian Actors Studio classes this June.

Classes are located in the Valborg Theatre every Monday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Faculty from theater and dance will present subjects like auditions, musical theater, improvisation and character movement during these series of classes. There is no cost to attend and registration is not necessary.

Classes include:

Audition Workshop, June 6, led by Derek Gagnier
Musical Theatre Dance, June 13, led by Dr. Ray Miller
Theatre Improvisation Games, June 20, led by Anna Ward
Theatrical Character Movement, June 27

The Department of Theatre and Dance offers academic programs for bachelor of arts degrees in dance studies and theater arts and a bachelor of science in theater arts education. Minors are offered in theater or dance, along with courses that may fulfill general education requirements.

All theater and dance programs at Appalachian are accredited by The National Association of Schools of Theatre, N.C. Department of Public Instruction and National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education.
