Introducing the Blue Ridge Youth Players
If the year 2011 signals an era of change, then the Blue Ridge Community Theatre will embrace that sentiment with gusto.
Since 1976, Blue Ridge Community Theatre (BRCT) has been filling the hills of western North Carolina with the sounds of laughter, drama and music. Community members have donated their time to help with publicity, fundraising and all the many jobs that go into a production.
In the past few years, the demand for youth-centered productions has come to the forefront. This has opened up a new world and created an added direction for BRCT. The result is a new branch of its theater family tree. The Blue Ridge Youth Players will utilize the talents of actors of all ages throughout the High Country to produce plays and musicals for the community.
This year's first annual summer musical theater extravaganza will be "A Peter Rabbit Tale," based on the books of Beatrix Potter. Directed by Amy Beane with music directed by Andrea McDonough, the characters of Peter, Flopsy, Mopsy, Thomasina, Mrs. Tiggy-winkle and many more will come to life on stage.
The cast includes Lindsey Cole, Zoa Archer, Journey Hamm, Levi Rawl, Andrew Cole, Zack Cole, Kelsey Strickland, Hannah Wood, Eve Sigmon, Abagael Anderson, Peyton Walton, Nelson Burns, Abigail Catone, Jenelle Boisvert, Emily Grant, Lindsee Spink, Madisyn Spink and Caroline Wood.
"A Peter Rabbit Tale" will be performed at the High Country Home Builders Association building, located at 755 N.C. 105 Bypass in Boone. The performances will be held Friday, July 29, at 7 p.m. and Saturday, July 30, at 2 and 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 and will be sold at the door.
