Ensemble Stage will soon be getting into the Christmas spirit with a special staged radio drama performance of the holiday classic, “A Christmas Carol.”

Local actors and High Country celebrities, including the newly re-elected Blowing Rock Mayor J.B. Lawrence, will perform an adaptation of the 1938 Orson Welles Campbell’s Soup Hour radio broadcast.

“This year, we wanted to add a production that would allow folks the opportunity to escape the hustle and bustle that weekend following Thanksgiving,” Ensemble Stage managing director Lisa Lamont said. “Of course, we’re still going to produce the third installment of our annual Christmas variety show, ‘Christmas in Blowing Rock,’ in December.”

“We feel this production is quite fitting for our company’s mission to contribute to the community,” artistic director Gary Smith said. “ Radio dramas used to bring families together, and that’s what Christmas is all about. ”

The performance will take place on Saturday, Nov. 26, at 7 p.m. at the Blowing Rock School Auditorium, located on Sunset Drive in downtown Blowing Rock. Tickets cost $10 for adults and $8 kids 16 and younger.
