The forecast for Blowing Rock this weekend?
Christmas!
Ensemble Stage presents “Christmas in Blowing Rock 3” Dec. 16 to 18 at the Blowing Rock School Auditorium.
Patterned after the Perry Como and Andy Williams TV holiday shows of the 1960s and ’70s, the holiday variety show is filled with singing, dancing, skits, comedy and more.
“Rehearsals are coming along, and the set is in the process of going up,” an Ensemble Stage spokesperson said. “This year’s cast is incredibly strong, vocally, so much so we’re able to feature many of them in solos and duets.”
That includes famous numbers like “Ave Maria” to “The Restroom Door Said Gentlemen” and “Count Your Blessings” to “The Man with the Bag,” while some of the show’s sketches include a parody on Allstate Insurance’s “Mayhem” commercials and “The Littlest Angel.”
The show boasts 17 group numbers, eight solos and three duets, along with three sketches, including “The Littlest Angel” and a parody on Allstate Insurance’s “Mayhem” commercials, “providing enough variety in an hour long show to please nearly every holiday entertainment taste,” the spokesperson said.
Musical accompaniment comes courtesy of pianist and musical director Blake Pace, with Shauna Godwin on choreography.
The show runs Friday and Saturday, Dec. 16 and 17, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 18, at 3 p.m. Tickets cost $14 for adults and $8 for kids and are available at http://www.ensemblestage.com or by calling (828) 474-1844. The Blowing Rock School Auditorium is located on Sunset Drive in downtown Blowing Rock.
