A local adaptation of Broadway classic, “Annie,” debuts June 27 at the Ashe County Civic Center.

Directed by Grady Lonon, with musical direction by Michael Bell, and produced by Jane Lonon, “Annie” will run June 27, 28, 29 and July 1 with curtain at 7:30 p.m. nightly, along with a matinee performance at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 30.

“Annie” tells the story of the ever-optimistic orphan, Annie, in New York City in the midst of the Great Depression — but nothing about Annie is depressed.

“From her indomitable spirit to her belief that one day she will have a family of her own, Annie quickly works her way into the heart of Oliver Warbucks, the billionaire; his secretary/love interest Grace Farrell, and all of the Warbucks’ servants,” according to information released by the Ashe County Arts Council. “Balance this potentially perfect world with the manipulative evil of Miss Hannigan and her n’er-do-well brother, Rooster, the plight of Annie’s fellow orphans, the fun of an old-time radio show and even an appearance of President Roosevelt and his cabinet, and you are set for a great story.”

In addition to Annie’s signature musical piece, the 40-member cast and live orchestra will perform such favorites as “Hard Knock Life,” “N.Y.C.,” “Easy Street” and more.

Reserved seating for “Annie” is available in advance from the Ashe County Arts Council. Tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for students; they are now on sale at the Ashe Arts Center, either in person, or by phone at (336) 846-2787. Credit cards are accepted.
