Wright and Dames jazz up the Jones House
The town of Boone continues the 2013 Summer Concerts at the
Jones House series this Friday, July 19, with Todd Wright and the Mercury Dames.
The Mercury Dames will get things started at 5 p.m., bringing their blend of tight harmony singing and an eclectic song selection. Including Kim France, Lauren Hayworth and Kat Chaffin, the Mercury Dames have just recently formed, although they bring a host of personal experience to the mix.
Jim Fleri will be accompanying the Dames on keyboard, and guitarist Andy Page is expected to sit in with the group.
“I’m really looking forward to hearing these girls sing and play,” said Boone’s cultural resources coordinator and concerts organizer, Mark Freed. “I have known them each from one group or another, and the couple YouTube teasers I have seen sound really good.”
Todd Wright and Friends will follow the Mercury Dames. As usual, Page will be performing with saxophonist Wright on Friday. These two make up the heart of the Appalachian State University jazz studies, and they have been the nucleus of the local jazz scene for many years, Freed said.
“Todd and Andy are both veteran performers,” he said. “They know how to entertain, and they have outstanding musicianship.”
The Concerts at the Jones House series is produced by the town of Boone and sponsored by the Downtown Boone Development Association, Mast General Store, Footsloggers, MPrints, Stick Boy Bread Company, Melanie’s and Farmer’s Rentals. The free concerts take place every Friday, starting at 5 p.m., rain or shine. People are encouraged to bring their own chair or blanket.
The Jones House Community and Cultural Center is located at 604 W. King St. in downtown Boone. For more information, including a complete schedule, visit http://www.joneshousecommunitycenter.org or call (828) 262-4576.
