Wolf Creek performs July 14 in Banner Elk
The Banner Elk Chamber of Commerce's fourth Concert in the Park will be on Thursday, July 14, featuring the traditional and eclectic sounds of Wolf Creek.
The concert starts at 6:30 p.m. at the Tate Evans Town Park stage behind Bank of America on N.C. 194.
Formed in 2007, Wolf Creek is the creative collaboration of five seasoned entertainers immersed in the craft of traditional and eclectic mountain music. With backgrounds as hired guns both on stage and in the studio, the members of Wolf Creek are familiar to music fans and musicians throughout the region. After several years backing singer-songwriter Reagan Boggs, Jason Crawford, Kevin Jackson, Jim Price and Robbie Stevens enlisted the help of former band mate Edward Main to embark on a new musical journey of their own making, shedding the confines inherent to their roles as sidemen with the many acts they have supported.
While strongly acoustic based, the music of Wolf Creek is augmented with the punch and power of drums and electric bass. Combining elements from bluegrass and country to blues and rock, Wolf Creek creates a sound described as "unique and fresh, yet classic and timeless."
The band's name was derived from the song of the same name by Dan Fogelberg, which was performed by some of the bands biggest influences, including Doc Watson, Herb Pedersen, David Grisman and Jerry Douglas.
After spending much of 2010 touring to support the release of their debut CD, "Like the Restless Wind," Wolf Creek is forging ahead into 2011 with another busy year of shows.
For their show in Banner Elk, concert-goers are encouraged to bring chairs or blankets and coolers. Food will also be available for purchase, as will raffle tickets for prizes, as well as for a cash drawing. Admission is free.
The next concert on July 21 will feature Ramajay Intercoastal, who play island rock and reggae music, and is sponsored by Hearthstone Tavern & Grille.
