Split Rail Records and Appalachian State University’s Music Industry Club are teaming up to present the area’s first Music Street event Saturday, April 20, from noon to 3 p.m.

The event will feature local singer-songwriters who will perform in venues along King Street in downtown Boone and the surrounding downtown area. The event has been designed to bring attention to local music and local record stores in conjunction with Record Store Day.

Featured student artists include Carly Taich, Hidden Still, Cam Haas, Glenn Deuel, Baylor Rossi and many other popular musicians.

In addition to the live performances, Split Rail Records will host music scouts Lane Caudell and Bob Crumley, songwriters and principals in Cauley Music Group, a Nashville-based music publisher and record company. They will scout the streets of Boone for undiscovered talent. Caudell and Crumley will also present a master class on songwriting in room 214 of the Broyhill Music Center on campus April 20, from 3 to 5 p.m. The public is invited to attend.

“The students of the music industry studies program at Appalachian are excited about working with local musicians and local business owners to create this event,” said Kim Wangler, director of the music industry studies program on campus. “Music Street will surely be a memorable event that we hope will become an annual, anticipated event. It provides the students with great hand-on experience in producing such an event.”

Local support is also an important element of this event. “I am very excited about working with Split Rail Records to raise awareness for supporting local record stores and keeping this business alive in today’s thriving music industry,” Fat Cats Music & Video owner Kevin Frith said.

This event is sponsored in part by Fat Cats in conjunction with Record Store Day, which recognizes the unique culture surrounding the more than 700 independently owned record stores in the U.S.
