This Thursday, two area bands are playing to a different tune.

Local bluegrass stalwarts Upright & Breathin' and funk outfit Bafoodus are taking the stage at Murphy's Restaurant & Pub in Boone to benefit Yadkin-based Crossroads Behavioral Healthcare, an organization that specializes in helping adults with developmental disabilities.

The show starts at 9:30 p.m., the cover costs $5, and additional donations are welcome.
Comprised of Ben Smith on guitar, bass and vocals; Brian Kreher on banjo and dobro; Jeff Moretz on mandolin and vocals; and John Sheffield on bass and guitar, Upright & Breathin' has played the High Country concert and festival circuit since its humble beginnings in Smith's downtown Boone basement.

Bafoodus features guitarist Andy Page, keyboardist Mike Runyon, bassist and vocalist Scott Haynes and drummer Ryan Lassiter performing original electric jazz funk compositions and what band members call "atypical covers not for the faint of heart."

Murphy's Restaurant & Pub is located at 747 W. King St. in downtown Boone. For more information, call (828) 264-5117. For more information on Crossroads Behavioral Healthcare, visit http://www.crossroadsbhc.org on the Web.
