’Tis the Season
“’Tis the Season,” A six-day holiday concert series showcasing
student musicians from Appalachian State University’s Hayes School of Music, begins Friday, Nov.
30, with a performance by the University Singers and Chamber Choir.
The performance begins
at 7:30 p.m. in Broyhill Music Center’s Rosen Concert Hall. Tickets for reserved seats are $5.
Proceeds will be used to fund student scholarships. Tickets are available from the Valborg Theatre
box office or by calling (800) 841-2787, (828) 262-3063 or (828) 262-4046. Tickets will be
available at the door for those events not sold out prior to the performance.
The “'Tis the
Season” series replaces the traditional holiday scholarship concert typically held in Farthing
Auditorium, which currently undergoing renovation.
The University Singers and Chamber Choir
will perform compositions, such as
“Allegro vivace” from John Rutter’s “Gloria,” “A Hymn to the
Virgin” by Benjamin Brittian, “Tomorrow Shall Be My Dancing Day” by John Gardner, “Christmas
Cantata” by Daniel Pinkham, “Wassail Song” arranged by Ralph Vaughan Williams and “Sleigh Ride” by
Leroy Anderson.
The Appalachian Symphony Orchestra will perform Sunday, Dec. 2, at 2 p.m.
in Rosen Concert Hall. The orchestra will perform “In the Steppes of Central Asia” by
Alexander Borodin, excerpts from “The Nutcracker” by Piotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and “Piano Concerto
No. 2 in C minor, Op. 18” by Sergei Rachmaninoff, featuring pianist Dr. Bair Shagdaron from the
Hayes School of
Music.
