The Band Perry launches second album

The country music hit-making trio, The Band Perry, is coming home to Greeneville, Tenn., to premiere its second album with a free downtown concert on Saturday, March 30.

The special concert, featuring the star siblings Kimberly, Reid and Neil Perry, will be held on North Main Street beginning at 6 p.m.

It will be the world premiere of the Republic Nashville recording artists’ highly anticipated new album, titled “Pioneer.”

The March 30 concert is being presented by the Greene County Partnership and sponsored by General Mills.

Immediately following the special performance, The Band Perry will sign autographs and meet with its fans.

If there is inclement weather, the event will move inside the gymnasium at Hal Henard Elementary School at 425 E. Vann Road in Greeneville, and attendees will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

“Anyone who knows us knows how much we love our hometown,” Neil Perry said in a press release. “We have been traveling so much the past several years that we wanted to bring our new music and our new show back home to the folks in Greeneville to say how much we appreciate their support, just like we did with our first record. It’s our way of saying ‘thank you.’

“We are working with General Mills this year to ‘Outnumber Hunger,’ and we are so appreciative that they are sponsoring our hometown show and giving us the platform to bring our new music home to our friends in Greeneville.”

“We are especially looking forward to spending time with our friends there and meeting our fans,” Reid Perry said in the release. “Sometimes, to know where you are going, you have to know where you have been. Greeneville is our home and is so dear to our hearts. It’s the place we come back to, to feed our souls and rest our heads. It’s where we can truly let our hair down.”

The album’s photo packaging will feature scenes from a downtown Greeneville February photo shoot, in which the country trio included the South Greene High School Rebels Band and the Chuckey-Doak High School Black Knights Band to reflect the album’s “marching band” inspiration.

A news release about the new album several weeks ago explained that “Pioneer” is “steeped in country tradition, with rock ’n’ roll elements both on performance and songwriting.”

The album was produced by Dann Huff and has been listed as one of Entertainment Weekly’s “12 Albums We Can’t Wait For.” It is due out officially on April 2.

“When we set out to record ‘Pioneer,’ the three of us drove across the country from Greeneville to Malibu (California) to work with one of our musical superheroes, Rick Rubin,” Reid Perry said. “Our time in the studio with Rick was so incredible, because during our early sessions he challenged us to set higher goals as songwriters.”

“With that experience came the realization that we needed to take the music back home to Tennessee and have Dann Huff bring the songs to life with his production,” Neil Perry said.
“Sometimes, where one starts off is not where one ends up, which is a big theme for us on ‘Pioneer.’”
The new album’s debut single, “Better Dig Two,” topped the Billboard Country Chart in February and is still holding strong at No. 3 this week.

The single is the band’s third No. 1 release, following “If I Die Young” and “All Your Life.”
According to the news release, “Better Dig Two” is the fastest rising album of their career and was certified platinum earlier this month.

The Perrys are also up for the 48th annual Academy of Country Music Awards’ “Vocal Group of the Year,” along with the Eli Young Band, Lady Antebellum, Little Big Town and the Zac Brown Band. The award show will air on CBS April 7, beginning at 8 p.m.

The Perrys are currently down under in Australia, where they are scheduled to perform three shows this week before returning home to Greeneville for the album premiere concert.
