Mountain Home Music will present bluegrass and traditional Appalachian music on Sunday, July 22, at Grace Lutheran Church in downtown Boone.

No admission will be charged, but a collection will be taken, and 100 percent of proceeds will be given to the Community Care Clinic, a Boone-based nonprofit organization that serves the uninsured.
Starting time is 3:30 p.m.

Strictly Clean & Decent and The Sheets Family Band will be featured.

“Strictly Clean & Decent is the only band that has appeared on Mountain Home Music each year since it started back in 1994,” said Joe Shannon, founder and host of Mountain Home Music. “And that’s because of their likeability and versatility. They’re spontaneous, funny and great musicians.”

Strictly Clean & Decent plays bluegrass, Celtic, blues, jazz and Broadway show tunes.

The Sheets Family Band plays traditional Appalachian, which features Scots-Irish fiddle tunes, ballads, old hymns and clawhammer banjo.

“They also sing original songs, but their forte’ is Carter Family songs, such as ‘Keep on the Sunny Side’ and ‘Will the Circle Be Unbroken,’ Shannon said.

The Sheets Family has represented the region at the National Folklife Festival, the Library of Congress and the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.

Mountain Home Music has named this concert, “Building a Barn: A Community Gathering,” reflecting a time when someone in the community had a need and all gathered to lend a helping hand.

Watauga County Healthy Carolinians and The Mast General Store are concert sponsors.

Grace Lutheran Church is located at 115 E. King St., Boone. Parking is available beside the church and also in a new parking lot behind the church.

The purpose of Mountain Home Music is to honor the music and the musicians of the Appalachian region.

Mountain Home Music is affiliated with the Blue Ridge Music Trails, a project of the North Carolina Arts Council.
