Sounds of Ireland
The sound of Ireland comes to Boone April 7. The Appalachian
State University Irish Ensemble will perform jigs, reels and waltzes from the Emerald Isle during
the 8 p.m. performance in Broyhill Music Center’s Recital Hall. The public is
Ensemble members are Connor Cook, button accordion and tin whistle; Valerie Puhala, fiddle and vocals; Jenny Parks, harp; Abigail Lanier, bodhrán; Tyler Patterson, guitar; John Paul Fretwell, fiddle; and Claire Wilkins, flute.
They will perform the music sets, “Gypsy Princess” and “Kesh Jig,” “Out on the Ocean” and “Blarney Pilgrim,” “Dingle Regatta,” “The Fields of Athenry,” “Boys of Ballycastle,” “Whiskey in the Jar,” “Belltable Waltz” and other traditional tunes.
The students are past participants of the Hayes School of Music’s study abroad program to University College Cork in Ireland. The ensemble is advised by Dr. Scott Meister, who co-leads the trip.
