Rucco-James Duo Feb. 1 at ASU

The Rucco-James Duo, which specializes in the guitar literature
of the early 19th century performed on authentic instruments of the period, will perform Feb. 1 at
Appalachian State University.
The program begins at 8 p.m. in Broyhill Music Center’s
Recital Hall. Admission is free.
Duo members are Pasquale Rucco and Douglas James.
The
guitarists will perform “Grand Duo, Op. 31, No. 3” by Antoine de Lhoyer, selections from “Orpheus
Melodische Sätze fur Zwey Guitarren” by Anton Diabelli, “Rondeau alla Pollacca pour deux Guitarres
tiré du Premier Concert, Op. 30” by Mauro Giuliani, “Variazioni Concertanti, Op. 130” by Mauro
Giuliani and “Sinfonia nell’Opera” from “The Barber of Seville” by Gioacchino Rossini and arranged
by Mauro Giuliani.
Rucco and James are internationally recognized authorities in the early
Romantic style. They combine a historically informed approach with world-class musicianship, and
play exclusively on authentic 19th century guitars. They have performed throughout the United
States, Italy and Austria.
James is a member of the Hayes School of Music faculty and
director of the Appalachian Guitar Fest.
Rucco is the winner of several European guitar
competitions, including the 1989 Arturo Toscannini Solo Guitar. Rucco is the founding director of
ACIF, a consortium of music academies operating in Naples, Italy, and the surrounding
region.
