Recital honors the late H. Max Smith

A faculty recital honoring the late H. Max Smith will be held Oct. 16 at Appalachian State University. Smith was an organist and retired faculty member from the Hayes School of Music.

The recital begins at 8 p.m. in Broyhill Music Center’s Rosen Concert Hall. Admission is free, and the public is invited to attend.

Dr. Joby Bell, associate professor of organ and director of the sacred music program at Appalachian, will perform Marcel Dupré’s “Prelude and Fugue in B, Op. 7, No. 1,” Alexandre Guilmant’s “Sonata No. 1 in D Minor, Op. 42”, Johann Sebastian Bach’s “Prelude and Fugue in E-flat, BWV 552,” Felix Mendelssohn’s “Sonata No. 5 in D, Op. 65, No. 5,” César Franck’s “Prière” and Leo Sowerby’s “Pageant.”
