Oboe and English horn recital presented Jan. 29
Jessica Warner will present a recital featuring oboe and
English horn Jan. 29 at Appalachian State University.
The recital begins at 8 p.m. in
Broyhill Music Center’s Recital Hall. Admission is free.
Accompanying Warner will be pianist
Laura Chu Stokes, horn player Stephanie Blaha and oboist Alicia Chapman.
The program includes
“Concerto in C Minor” by Benedetto Marcello, “Sonata for Oboe and Piano” by Francis Poulenc,
“Serenade in F Minor for Oboe, Horn and Piano” by Robert Kahn and Warner’s arrangement of
“Appalachian Waltz” by Mark O’Connor for oboe and English horn.
Warner holds a bachelor’s
degree from the University of Michigan and a master’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin.
From 2010-11, she was the English horn player of the Peoria Symphony Orchestra. She
has also held the position of associate principal oboist with the Auckland Philharmonia in Auckland,
New Zealand, and principal oboist of the Pontiac Symphony in Michigan.
Warner has performed
oboe and English horn with many other orchestras throughout the United States and abroad, including
the Charlotte Symphony, Winston-Salem Symphony, South Bend Symphony, Marion Symphony, Dearborn
Symphony, Austin Civic Chorus, Illinois Symphony and Monterrey (Mexico) Symphony Orchestra.
She also has played solo performances with the South Bend Symphony, Odyssey Chamber Ensemble
and the 9th Street Philharmonic Orchestra.
In 2011, she released the debut recording of
Dirk-Michael Kirsch’s “Ganymed for Solo Oboe.”
