Mountain Home Music will present a special musical event called “No Place Like Home,” beginning at 4 p.m. on Sunday, July 15. The concert and potluck dinner will feature musicians Cecil Gurganus, Mark Freed and Mary Greene and will take place in the home of Sarah Borders in Blowing Rock.

Gurganus, Freed and Greene are longtime friends who are well-known in the local acoustic and old time music scenes. Sunday’s concert will feature Gurganus on fiddle, Greene on guitar and Freed on banjo.

This special trio has represented Mountain Home Music on two tours of Ireland, entertaining folks in airports, pubs and the streets of that country from Dublin to the Ring of Kerry with their large repertoire of Appalachian tunes and traditional songs.

Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students, with all proceeds going to the musicians. Seating is limited, and reservations are requested. Bring a folding chair and a potluck item if you would like to stay for the dinner, which starts at 6 p.m.

Musicians are encouraged to bring their acoustic instruments for a “slow jam” after the concert.
For more information, directions and reservations, which are required, call (704) 929-6527 or (828) 264-7862, or email (sarahborders@aol.com)
