If you plan on coming to the Harvest House this weekend, you
better come ready to dance and groove to the roots-rock anthem sound of Melissa Reaves and The
The concert is a fundraiser to benefit women with breast cancer in the Boone area.
The event gets under way at 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, with a health fair featuring complimentary services and even a yoga class.
Reaves, a Grammy-nominated artist who has called Boone home for the past 28 years, takes to the stage at 6 p.m.
“When (event organizer) Dianna Lee booked me, she said they (the audience) wanted to dance,” Reaves said. “We will play some upbeat music with familiar tunes. We’ll also have some of my originals from my last three albums.”
Reaves, who also deviates from her main band with a country configuration, said she will also perform some “fun covers,” including works from favorite artists Tina Turner, Carole King and some old Motown hits.
Reaves will be joined by Gregg Smith on keyboard, Tim Roberts on drum and Freddy Banner on bass.
“This band is like my cover band,” Reaves said. “We do a ton of fun covers and originals also.”
When asked about her interest in headlining the benefit, Reaves said she always welcomes the opportunity to perform at community benefits as a way to give back.
“I have friends who have or have survived cancer … but I think it is something any man or woman, particularly a woman, can relate to.”
There is already a buzz about Reaves’ upcoming performance.
“This event is an opportunity to support an excellent program to help women during their treatment time for breast cancer, while having a great time listening to music provided by one of Boone’s finest,” organizer Lee said.
The benefit concert is sponsored by Through Healing Eyes, The Haven and Bare Essentials Natural Market. Harvest House is located at 247 Boone Heights Drive, near Goodwill. Donations are also greatly appreciated, Lee said.
Any local suppliers of natural health services or products who would like to participate in the health fair can do so by arriving at the Harvest House at 4 p.m. with a table to display product information. There is no charge to participate.
