Kruger Bros. concert to benefit Care Clinic
The Kruger Brothers will perform a benefit concert March 3 for the Community Care Clinic of Boone.
Swiss bluegrass sensations The Kruger Brothers will lend their
talents to help the uninsured in Watauga County with a benefit concert at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, March 3,
at the Watauga High School auditorium.
Tickets are $20 and are available at Mast General
Store in Boone, Bare Essentials Natural Market, the Community Care Clinic and online at
http://www.ccclinic.org.
Tickets will also be available at the door for purchase with cash or check
only. Proceeds will benefit the Community Care Clinic.
"The Kruger Brothers are delighted to
be supporting an important community initiative with their music," the band said on its
website.
The trio of banjo player Jens Kruger, guitarist Uwe Kruger and bassist Joel
Landsberg plays a sophisticated but unpretentious style of bluegrass characterized by rich detail
and compositions that often build on jazz or classical themes and techniques.
The Krugers
moved to the United States from Europe more than a decade ago, settling in the Appalachian foothills
of Wilkes County. They have since built a loyal following among American music lovers. Bluegrass
Journal called the band "nothing short of magnificent," and the late Doc Watson said the Kruger
Brothers "are just about as fine a band as I've ever played with."
In 2010, the band
premiered the "Appalachian Concerto," a concerto for banjo, bass, guitar and string quartet. They
have performed the work with symphony orchestras and string quartets throughout the
country.
The Community Care Clinic was established in 2006 to provide health care for
uninsured people in the Watauga community. More than 100 volunteers give their time and talent to
provide services, such as primary care, specialty care, nursing, lab services, patient intake,
reception, clerical assistance and more.
Sponsors of the March 3 concert include presenting
sponsor Mast General Store, Boone Drugs Inc., Stepping Stone of Boone, Flanagan Pipes Land and
Commercial Properties and Joan and Daniel Zelinski.
