Looking for a last-minute gift idea to make the holiday season bright?

Blowing Rock’s Hayes Performing Arts Center might have the answer, with tickets now on sale for its upcoming shows – the Winter Blues Festival and John Cowan Band.

The Winter Blues Festival hits the Hayes Stage Jan. 27 at 7:30 p.m., featuring High Country blues stalwarts the King Bees and the Hayes Center debut of Atlanta, Ga., blueswoman Beverly “Guitar” Watkins.

“This celebrated ‘pyrotechnic blues maven’ has shared the stage with some of the world’s greatest blues and R&B legends, including James Brown, B.B. King and Ray Charles,” a Hayes spokesperson said. “Watkins’ electrifying blend of blues – from roadhouse to rockabilly and beyond – has wowed audiences all over the globe.”

She wowed the High Country during this year’s New River Blues Festival, and Hayes Center staff looks forward to welcoming her to Blowing Rock.

Tickets cost $20 and are on sale at http://www.hayescenter.org.

The John Cowan Band performs the next night, Jan. 28, at 7:30 p.m. Cowan, who also performs with New Grass Revival and The Doobie Brothers, as seen at MerleFest this past spring, promises to take audience members on a jam-filled musical journey.

“A JCB jam is something special,” Cowan said, “and we’d love to share it with y’all.”

Tickets cost $26 and are available at http://www.hayescenter.org.
