GuitarFest fundraiser Nov. 12 at ASU

A fundraiser for the annual Guitarfest competition will be held
Nov. 12 in Broyhill Music Center’s Recital Hall at Appalachian State University.
Admission
is $5.
The event will feature performances by seven classical guitarists and the Appalachian
Guitar Orchestra.
Performing will be the guitar duo of Pasquale Rucco and Douglas James, who
perform on 19th century guitars. James directs the guitar program at Appalachian.
Also
performing will be classical guitar performance majors Zachary Richey and Hayes Cummings from the
Hayes School of Music; Appalachian graduate and local guitar instructor Justin Butler; jazz
guitarist Andy Page, who teaches in the Hayes School of Music; and alumnus and acclaimed classical
guitarist Matt Palmer, who is a past GuitarFest winner and an adjunct instructor in the music school
this semester.
The 18th annual Appalachian GuitarFest and Competition will be held April 12
to 14, 2013, in the Hayes School of Music. Guitarists slated to perform include Douglas James,
Ernesto Tamayo, Matt Palmer, Duo Spiritoso and the guitar and voice duo of Gary Boye and Priscilla
Porterfield.
