Good Vibes
Vibist Jon Metzger returns to the Blowing Rock Jazz Society this Sunday at the Meadowbrook Inn.
Celebrated vibraphonist Jon Metzger returns to the Meadowbrook
Inn Sunday for this month's Blowing Rock Jazz Society concert.
Trumpeted as "a new star
vibist" by Jazztimes magazine, Metzger has developed an international presence through extensive
touring, recording and lecturing.
Metzger's album, Into the Light, was cited by The
Washington Post as "music that simultaneously appeals to the head, heart and feet," while Jazztimes
adds, "Metzger's musicianship shines."
In addition to his own recordings on the VSOP label,
Metzger has appeared on other albums by vocalist Ronnie Wells, Iris Benjamin's Passing By, and the
N.C. Jazz Repertory Orchestra's Benny Goodman Swing Collection.
A winner of a National
Endowment for the Arts Fellowship Grant for Performance, Metzger has appeared at well-known jazz
venues across the U.S. and abroad, including East Coast Jazz Festival in Washington, D.C., and the
Spoleto Festival in Spoleto, Italy.
When not touring, Metzger is still performing as an
artist in residence at Elon University. He now returns to Blowing Rock, where he'll take the Jazz
Society's proverbial stage, performing with area musicians Todd Wright on saxophone, Andy Page on
guitar, Ron Brendle on bass, and Rick Dilling on drums.
The show starts at 7 p.m. on Sunday,
Nov. 8, at the Meadowbrook Inn, located at 711 Main St. in Blowing Rock. Admission costs $15 per
person, $5 for students, and free for all Blowing Rock Jazz Society members.
