Willa Finck, well known to area audiences as a member of area Celtic band The Forget-Me-Nots, will present a classical violin recital at 7 p.m. Friday, May 17, in the Recital Hall at the Broyhill Music Center on the campus of Appalachian State University.

Dr. Allison Gagnon, director of the Piano Collaboration Program at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts in Winston-Salem, will join Finck in her performance. The 50-minute program features works by Bach, Brahms, Sarasate, Paganini and Debussy.

Finck is currently a junior at Watauga High School. She began studying violin at age 2 with Nan Stricklen in Banner Elk. Her teacher of the last four years has been Dr. Nancy Bargerstock, professor of violin at ASU.

Finck was recently recognized with an honorable mention and a third-place showing in the Charlotte Symphony Young Artist Competition and the Asheville Symphony Concerto Competition. She plans to attend the UNC School of the Arts for her senior year of high school.

Finck plays a violin recently made by her father, David Finck.

A light reception will follow the recital. The performance is free, and members of the public are welcome.

Appalachian’s Broyhill Music Center is located off Rivers Street in Boone.
