Electro-acoustic concert Nov. 14
An upcoming electro-acoustic concert at ASU is based on recorded samples collected by students.
A Nov. 14 electro-acoustic “Sculpture Concert” features student
performers from Appalachian State University’s Hayes School of Music.
The free performance
begins at 8 p.m. in Broyhill Music Center’s Recital Hall.
The performance is based on
recorded samples, which were collected by composition and theory students. They used a variety of
implements to strike sculptures from the Rosen Outdoor Sculpture Competition and Exhibition and
record their sound.
Students manipulated and edited samples in the Hayes School of Music’s
electronic music studio and wrote original compositions by blending live instruments and digital
audio media.
“Each student has been in contact with their sculptures’ artists to achieve
insight into the making and thought process utilized in the sculptures’ creation,” said Dr. Scott
Meister, who holds the Sharpe Chair Professorship of Composition.
Performing are Bradley
Green, Chris Florence, Connor Cook, D. Ward Francis, Joseph House, Shawn Milloway and Daniel Bukin.
