Drawlstrings roll into Koncepts
The Drawlstrings return to Koncepts Hookah Lounge Sept. 25, and the local boys are bringing more than noise. They're debuting a new member.
Mandolinist Ryan Dalton joins his cousin, Aaron Wilson (rhythm and lead guitar), and friends Charlie Grimes (bass guitar) Chad Wainright (drums) and Jimmy Kerr (electric banjo, acoustic banjo) in the quintet whose venues include Murphy's and Galileo's.
For those not familiar with the group's "punk grass," Kerr's only all-too-willing to explain. "It's kind of a blues-rock-alternative-country," he said.
And high energy is the name of the game. The addition of an electric banjo should take things up another notch. "It's kind of a rockier sound," Kerr said.
It's a sound perfect for Koncepts.
"It's usually a younger crowd," he said. "They're high-energy, and they like the high energy that we bring."
And Kerr and the rest of the quintet plan to bring new songs to showcase the unique twang.
A Drawlstring pet peeve? High cover charges. That's why they've set the cost low at $3.
"When we go to a band ... we don't want to pay $7," he said. "That's like three drinks."
The show gets rolling at 10:30 p.m. on Sept. 25. BYOB, 21+. Koncepts Hookah Lounge is located at 809 W. King St. in downtown Boone.
